40-Day Lenten Pilgrimage set to begin in Brooklyn and Queens
Bishop Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, will celebrate Mass and distribute ashes tomorrow at Noon, Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James, located at 250 Cathedral Place in Downtown Brooklyn.
Ash Wednesday begins the Christian observance of the season of Lent. As is customary, the ashes used on Ash Wednesday are made by burning the blessed palms distributed the prior year on Palm Sunday.
Following the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration will begin the 2024 Diocesan Lenten Pilgrimage. Individual parishes throughout Brooklyn and Queens will offer Mass, prayer, and reflection opportunities during these visits over the next 40 days. The complete schedule can be found online at lent.diobrook.org.
This Mass will be broadcast live on the Brooklyn Diocesan Cable Channel, NET-TV, available on Channel 97 (Spectrum), Channel 30 (Optimum), and Channel 548 (Fios).
Lent ends with celebrating the Sacred Triduum, the three holiest days of the year: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. Easter Sunday will be celebrated this year on March 31st.
