Bishop Robert Brennan, the Bishop of Brooklyn, will lead a Mass in honor of the New York City Fire Department members on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The Mass, which will take place at noon at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 856 Pacific Street in Brooklyn, is dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Father Anthony Palombo, a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, whose firefighter father died on 9/11/01, will join Bishop Brennan in celebrating the Mass.

The FDNY’s Battalion 57 in Brooklyn will lead a procession across the Brooklyn Bridge to the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, starting from the Manhattan side at approximately 10 a.m. The firefighters will carry 25 flags, including one American flag and 24 FDNY flags, representing the 23 members of Battalion 57 who were lost at the World Trade Center and a member’s brother who also died that day.

Bishop Brennan will join the procession on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge and continue to the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph. Battalion 57 consists of several fire stations and multiple fire companies, including four Battalion Chiefs, Engine Companies 217, 219, 230, and 235, and Ladder Companies 102 and 105.
