The school community of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy, located at 61-17 Grand Avenue in the Maspeth section of Queens, will host a special Disney-themed costumed Dance-a-Thon fundraiser today, Monday, June 6, 2022, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the schoolyard.

The fundraiser will support a Pre-k student at the school, Auggie Vinti, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. DIPG is a tumor that occurs in the area of the brainstem.

All funds raised will go to his family to support medical and related expenses. A Go Fund Me page has been started which has already raised more than $53,000. The page can be found at: https://gofund.me/a3edf0bf

Baked items, cotton candy, and popcorn will be sold at the event as part of the fundraising efforts.

Catherine Mangone is the Principal of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy.

Auggie is a fun-loving four-year-old boy who dreams of being a fireman when he grows up. He is the best big brother and cousin and enjoys spending time with his family. On Thursday, May 12, Auggie was diagnosed with aggressive Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, also known as DIPG. DIPG has a 2% survival rate and is a type of tumor that starts in the brain stem, the part of the brain just above the back of the neck and connected to the spine. The brain stem controls breathing, heart rate and the nerves and muscles that help us see, hear, walk, talk and eat. Auggie is currently in the hospital receiving Radiation treatment which he will need for at least six weeks before he can be re-evaluated and potentially start a clinical trial. These times will be not just emotionally draining but financially due to the various appointments and travel fees the family will endure. We very much appreciate any support you can give and would like to ask that you keep him in your prayers. If you are not comfortable donating through Go Fund Me you could send you donations to August Vinti c/o Maureen Overko 526 3rd Street Belvidere,NJ 07823
