Juan Cuadrad, Yaya Toure, Memphis Depay - EPL Players that look to Impress Next Season

by Michael Skok     22 czerwca, 2015

The English Premier League has its share of magnificent players have all impressed in the most recent instance of the league. Next season we expect these names to continue to dominate to headlines, but there will be plenty of others that look to join them there.

Juan Cuadrado
A player known for his explosiveness from his performances with Colombia (particularly in the World Cup) and for Fiorentina, has been quite disappointing ever since his relatively high profile move to Chelsea. Although Jose Mourinho didn’t play him extensively, he wasn’t able to showcase his technical abilities the times he had been on the pitch. The Chelsea manager often opted to play the trio of Oscar, Willian, and Hazard, with sometimes Cesc Fabregas rotated more forward from his usual center-midfield position. This is a very similar situation to which Angel Di Maria has faced, where he has often been frustrated by the league’s style, losing the ball way too easily while not offering much of an outlet. He will look to next year, as he should be much more acquainted with the league at that point. In an ideal world, he would give Chelsea an extra dimension come next season.

Yaya Toure
It appears the Ivorian midfielder will be once again at the Etihad next season for Manchester City. He has been an elusive figure for the squad as a whole, sometimes being a domineering force, other times being a liability; especially defensively. It seems this instance of the league has confirmed that Yaya Toure can’t play in a midfield pairing of two against the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and even Manchester United. The fact that he was bypassed too many times against Barcelona’s midfield, as well as being dominated by Maroune Fellaini of Manchester United in the 4-2 loss, shows that he should be used in a limited way defensively. However, perhaps he can play in a more advanced position in these more difficult games, as his physicality and offensive prowess is still very valuable for the former EPL champions. He can still play in a center-midfield pairing against weaker opposition, however he must be used (if he will be) behind Sergio Aguero if he is to truly be an asset in those situations.

Memphis Depay
A new addition to the EPL, it’s quite evident that Manchester United’s newest signing will be looking to cement himself into Van Gaal’s side. Having a thoroughly impressive send off season with PSV Eindhoven, the Dutch winger will now look to be a regular in the Red Devils squad. Even though he may very likely have a slow start, what with the young age and recent mediocre performances by other explosive wingers like Angel Di Maria and Juan Cuadrado, he has the tools to succeed in the EPL. With Van Gaal, a manager who is very well like a “father figure” to the Dutch talent, he will be given the time and space to become a starter for Manchester United. He has a fantastic left foot, great pace, and a free-kick specialist; he will have plenty of opportunities to give the Manchester United fans something to be excited about.
