Manchester City and Chelsea Tie in Vital Title Clash

04 lutego, 2015

by Michael Skok

For the second league game in a row between the two, Manchester City and Chelsea tied 1-1 at Stamford Bridge in a crucial match for the title. The day began with a five-point gap between first place Chelsea and Manchester City, the day ended with the same point gap between the two.

Both teams came into the match with crucial players missing. For the current league leaders, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas were the big two, while Manchester City were missing their own talented pair in Yaya Toure and Wilfred Bony. What resulted was an affair that ended up with Manchester City controlling much of the play while Chelsea ceded the possession and relied on their defensive resilience to get the acquired score line.

For both teams, this result was perhaps the most ideal for both teams. Of course Chelsea would be the happier of the two, but a five-point deficit isn’t an insurmountable challenge for the current champions that will have Yaya Toure and Wilfred Bony come back for the remainder of the season. This is a team that can realistically win the rest of their fixtures this season, having already played Chelsea and Arsenal in the second half of the season.

For Chelsea, this team can as well keep the gap between themselves and the Citizens until the end of the season. Jose Mourinho is also a manager that any Chelsea fan can entrust to lead them to another Premier League title. Manchester City was easily the hardest fixture, and with Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas coming back, along with the inclusion of Juan Cuadrado, this team, like City’s, is a team that can keep the gap between the rest of the league and themselves until the end of the season.

The title race will most likely come down to this; which teams’ returning players will have a bigger impact for the remaining fixtures. Wilfred Bony’s partnership with Sergio Aguero can potentially fire Manchester City past Chelsea, despite the deficit. If Fabregas can continue his partnership with Diego Costa, then there will be plenty of quality for Chelsea to continue their momentum until the end.
