Deadline for Polonia Long Island 2024 Scholarship April 15, 2024

Applications must be postmarked on or before April 15, 2024. Scholarships awarded to undergraduate students of Polish descent.

Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students of Polish descent.

All applicants:

  1. Be of Polish descent.
  2. Have own or family membership to Polonia of Long Island, Inc.
  3. Students who have been awarded two Polonia of Long Island, Inc. scholarships may not apply.
  4. Need to have completed at least one year of studies and be enrolled full-time.
  5. The following mustbe included in your application:

    • 3-5 page typewritten, double-spaced, original essay in English on one of the following topics:
      • Marek Hłasko was a writer who was able to saturate mundane matters and topics taken from everyday life with deep existential content. Due to this, his work has a universal meaning. With his uncompromising attitude, also towards the communist reality, he attracted generations of young people from various corners of the world. Choose one story and compare it to a contemporary topic or issue.
      • The phenomenon of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity activities in Poland. How important are these types of charitable community events in the world?
      • Wincenty Witos - the hero of 2024. Based on his biography, discuss whether you agree with the statement that Witos was an outstanding statesman. How do you interpret his words: "When there was no independent Poland, you had to strive for it; when it came, you had to work for it; and when it was in need, you had to defend it." What does patriotism mean to you?
  6. Provide official transcripts from all colleges attended (copies will not be accepted) with a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA.
  7. List and describe any extracurricular activities and other current interests.  Use an additional sheet of paper if needed.
  8. Enclose two letters of recommendation in sealed envelopes.  At least one must be on an institution letterhead from a faculty member attesting to your academic qualities.  One can be from an individual of your choice who has known you for at least two years.

Put your name, address, and contact information on the cover page of your essay.
Do NOT put your name or any identifying information on any page of the essay.
Make sure to cite all your references in APA format.

Please explain any special circumstances you wish to bring to the attention of the Scholarship Committee on a separate sheet of paper. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope to receive confirmation of your application by mail.
