Film about Witold Pilecki in Chicago

January 30, 2015

The film about ‘Auschwitz Volunteer’ titled “The Death of Captain Pilecki” tells the story of a heroism that transcends religion, race and time.

The Polish Consulate General in Chicago, in coordination with its local partners, presents the screening of a Ryszard Bugajski film titled “The Death of Captain Pilecki”.

Captain Witold Pilecki was a Polish intelligence officer during WWII who volunteered for a Polish Resistance operation to get imprisoned in the Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp in order to gather intelligence and enable the Polish government-in-exile to inform the Allies about the ongoing Holocaust in occupied Poland. The operation’s outcome was expected to convince the Allies to act on the Pilecki Reports and stop the Holocaust while there was still time. The film also tells the story of Witold Pilecki’s fate at the hands of the Communist government after the end of WWII.

The guest of honor during the screenings will be Marek Probosz, the lead actor in the film starring as Witold Pilecki. Q&A with Marek Probosz will follow the screening.
