Polish Filmmakers NYC and The Kosciuszko Foundation present Andrzej Wajda’s "Kanał"

August 13, 2014

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Warsaw Uprising of 1944, Polish Filmmakers NYC and The Kosciuszko Foundation present a screening of Andrzej Wajda’s landmark film “Kanał.”

The crowning work of the Polish Film School movement, Wajda’s highly emotional account of the failed Warsaw Uprising of 1944 is among Polish cinema’s finest achievements. The story of a group of insurgents trying to get to the Nazi-free district of Warsaw through the city sewers is a haunting tale of the human survival, courage and victory that can be found even in defeat. Highly praised upon its international premiere in 1957, when it was awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival, the movie is a masterpiece of storytelling, set design and camerawork, with cinematographer Jerzy Lipman’s images that stayed forever in the canon of world filmmaking.

We thank our partners: Adam Bak Foundation, Polish Film Institute, and Metropolis Artists Agency.

The film is presented in its original Polish language version with English subtitles.
