The invitation for the MUNDUS CANTAT SOPOT

26 sierpnia, 2010

We invite you to take part in the 7th International Choir Festival MUNDUS CANTAT SOPOT 2011 to be held May 25-29, 2011.

Join singers from all over the world in Sopot, Poland, in the country of Chopin, and demonstrate your talents in one (or all!) of three musical categories!

This colorful and delightful event has already gained a large group of friends and well-wishers within the international community of choral music lovers.

We invite adult, children’s and youth choirs to sing Sacral, Secular, and Gospel/Jazz/Spiritual music. Auditions and concerts take place in the beautiful churches of Sopot, whereas the Final Concert will be celebrated in a unique one-hundred-year-old amphitheatre at the Forest Opera in Sopot.

Every year the festival is inaugurated by a colorful Parade of Choirs along the Monte Casino mall with members of each choir dressed in their picturesque national costumes.  The parade culminates in the opening ceremony on the Sopot Molo, the longest wooden pier in Europe.

During the festival, participants perform in various venues around the Baltic Tri-city metropolis: in Gdańsk, a 1,000 year old city considered to be the most monument-packed site in Baltic Europe; in Gdynia, a young, rapidly expanding port, situated right on the seashore, offering many tourist attractions as well as splendid shopping opportunities and vibrant entertainment; and in Sopot, the “Pearl of the Baltic, a genuine traditional European seaside health spa.  Performances are also held in other cities of the idyllic province of Pomerania.

Mundus Cantat Sopot 2011offers an excellent opportunity to compare vocal traditions from all over our planet, encountering traditional as well as exotic songs from the far-flung corners of the world.

The President of Sopot, the Pomeranian Provincial Governor, the Marshal of the Pomeranian Province and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage are annual sponsors of this event.

The artistic director, Professor Marcin Tomczak, pro-vice chancellor of the Gdansk Music Academy, is highly regarded in the field of choral music.

Any amateur choirs can take part in the festival, competing in three categories: Sacral, Secular, and Gospel/Jazz/Spiritual.   Rounding out the event is a choral workshop open to all participating members.

You can find more information at www.munduscantat.sopot.pl

We warmly invite you to read more about the terms of participation and send in your application to be a part of our festival.

The joy of singing as well as substantial cash awards await you!

Welcome to Sopot!
