ALL FOR ONE THEATER FESTIVAL is pleased to present Sylvia Milo’s THE ♀THER MOZART, directed by Isaac Byrne. This four-performance engagement will be in the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. New York, NY, 10014). Performances of THE ♀THER MOZART will begin on Saturday, October 12 and will continue until Sunday, October 27.

THE ♀THER MOZART is a play about Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Amadeus. It tells the true story of this prodigy, a keyboard virtuoso and composer, who as a child toured through all of Europe performing with her brother, to equal acclaim, but who faded away and left behind nothing of her own. The show is set in, on and underneath its costume: a stunning dress some eighteen feet in diameter, which spills over the entire stage. Original music was composed for instruments Nannerl knew intimately, such as clavichords, music boxes, and bells, as well as teacups, fans, and other ordinary objects that might have captured her imagination.

According to The New York Times, composer Nathan Davis “writes music that deals deftly and poetically with timbre and sonority” and “ an alluring and pensive musical experience.” Also Praised by the New York Times for her “delightful quirkiness matched with interpretive sensitivity,” composer Phyllis Chen contributes to the sound of the piece. The composers are both members of the International Contemporary Ensemble.

THE ♀THER MOZART features sound design by Nathan Davis and costume design by Magdalena Dabrowska and Miodrag Guberinic.

BIOGRAPHIES
Sylvia Milo (Project Creator, Writer, Actress) is originally from Warsaw, Poland, Sylvia is a graduate of New York University and the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Former member of the BATS Repertory Company at the Flea Theater. In New York she has performed at such theaters as the Flea, La Mama, Ontological-Hysteric, Theatre For the New City, and Dixon Place. Among her favorite stage roles: Hamlet in "Hamlet" - an all-female version of the play, which she adapted and directed herself; Sylvia in "Seating Arrangements"- co-written by Sylvia, directed by Eric Pold of Gob Squad for the Flea Theatre; Ophelia in “The Ophelia Landscape”- an experimental production with Mira Furlan at the Mark Morris Center; and Bob Dylan on the streets of New York, in "The West Village Fragments" by Peculiar Works. Sylvia is also a violinist (playing acoustic and electric violins) and a composer, and she often uses her music skills in acting. Playing in various rock, jazz, avant garde bands, she has performed at venues including Irving Plaza, The Knitting Factory, Galapagos, Webster Hall, CBGB\'s and Joe\'s Pub. She composed scores for Natasa Trifan dance company at the Merce Cunningham Studio as well as other dance and theater productions, and her solo electric violin score for the play, "Cinnamon Moths", was acclaimed in Backstage as "stunning, to say the least". Isaac Byrne (Director) has directed the premieres of “Green”, “To Nineveh” (both at American Place Theatre), “Something True” (Samuel French Short Play Festival), and co-directed “I Used To Write On Walls” (Gene Frankel Theater), “Diane and The Jessica” (The OHIO Theatre as part of SHORT LOVE), and the staged reading of “Miss Lily Gets Boned” (The LARK)—all by Bekah Brunstetter, “Many Worlds” by William Borden (The Red Room), “Arms and the Octopus” by Casey Wimpee (The OHIO Theater as part of fuckplays), “Fresh Kills” by Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder (at 59E59), “Inter Course” by Brandon Koebernick (American Place Theatre), “Playoff Picture” by Paul John Desena (American Place Theatre), and “The Cowboy is Dying...” (June Havoc), “The New Normal” by Donnetta Lavinia Grays (June Havoc). He has also directed “True West” by Sam Sheperd for Curious Frog Company which was performed in an East Village Apt. He developed and directed Desiree Burch’s solo shows, “52 Man Pick Up” (Joe’s Pub, Ars Nova, Edinburg Fringe Festival-Scotland, OHIO Theatre, 59E59, NY Int. Fringe, New Orleans Fringe, Brava Theater-San Francisco) and “Tar Baby” (Daryl Roth Theater 2, PS122, New Orleans Fringe). “To Nineveh” was nominated for 9 NY IT Awards and won 6 including Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Production, and Outstanding Original Full Length. A founding member of Working Man\'s Clothes Productions, where he served as Artistic Director for four years, Isaac is currently serving as the Artistic Director for the newly formed THEATRE 4 the PEOPLE. With T4TP he has directed A GRIMM REALITY (Co-production with Bryant Park), "the shakespeare project" (WTD SPLAT) and “To Be or Not To Be Canon in D” (WTD SPLAT performance) created by Jessica Doherty. Nathan Davis (Composer, Sound Designer) has been inspired by natural phenomena and the abstraction of simple stories, Nathan Davis "writes music that deals deftly and poetically with timbre and sonority" (Steve Smith, NYTimes). His music has been commissioned by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Claire Chase, Calder Quartet, Yarn/Wire, Steven Schick, La Jolla Symphony Chorus, Miller Theater, and the Ojai Festival (for eighth blackbird and sound sculptor Trimpin). Lincoln Center inaugurated the new Tully Scope Festival in 2011 with the premiere of Nathan\'s 30 minute site-specific work "Bells", performed by ICE and praised by Anthony Tommasini in the NYTimes as "an alluring and pensive musical experience", and his music has also been presented at NYC\'s Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, The Kitchen, Roulette, Le Poisson Rouge, the Stone, Issue Project Room, the Park Avenue Armory, and at festivals across the US and around the world. He has received awards from Meet The Composer, Fromm Foundation at Harvard, Copland Fund, Jerome Foundation, American Music Center, MATA, ASCAP, and the ISCM. CDs of his music include The Bright and Hollow Sky, one of TimeOut NY\'s top 10 classical albums of 2011. As a core member of ICE, Nathan is in residence at the Mostly Mozart Festival. Phyllis Chen (Composer, Toy Pianist) has been praised by the New York Times for her “delightful quirkiness matched with interpretive sensitivity,” Phyllis is a pianist, toy pianist and a composer (New Music/New Places Fellow at the 2007 Concert Artist Guild International Competition). In 2009, she was the featured solo musician in Stephin Merritt’s OffBroadway musical "Coraline". Phyllis is one of the founding members of ICE (International Contemporary Ensemble), a Chicago and New York based collective dedicated to the performance and promotion of new works. Phyllis also founded the UnCaged Toy Piano, a composition competition to further expand the repertoire for toy piano and electronics. A strong interest in interdisciplinary work led her to collaborations with video artist and electronic musician Rob Dietz with whom she created multimedia works such as “The Memoirist”, “Pearlessence”, “Chroma” and “Carousel”.Upcoming projects for the duo include a micro-media toy piano opera commissioned by Opera Cabal. Phyllis attended Oberlin Conservatory as a recipient of the Dean’s Talent Award Scholarship and received a Masters Degree from Northwestern University as an Eckstein Merit Scholar. She is continuing to pursue her DMA in piano performance at Indiana University where she studied with André Watts. Her piece "Chimers" based on Papageno’s magic bells from Mozart’s "Magic Flute" was premiered at the Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival in 2011. (www.phyllischen.net)

Magdalena Dąbrowska (Costume Designer - the Dress) is a versatile Polish designer whose projects include fashion, theatrical costumes and set designs. A graduate of Łazarski University in Warsaw, of makeup academy in the Fine Arts College and of the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design. She teaches costume design at the Active Academy of Visual Arts and at the Warsaw School of Advertising. Her designs have been finalists at such prestigious competitions as Oskary Mody, OFF Fashion and Złota Nitka. She also participated in joint shows organized during the International Millinery Competition in France. She designed the costumes for the shows, “Taksówka”, “Spacerowicz” and “Ukryj Mnie w Gałęziach Drzew” directed by Igor Gorzkowski for Studio Teatralne KOŁO. She also designed the costumes and sets for an event entitled, “Obchód Teatru, Czyli Kim Jest Wojciech B.?” at the National Theatre in Poland. In 2009, in the competition, Złota Nitka, she was awarded the Media Grand Prix and a honorary mention in the primer vision category, for her collection entitled “Beauty Mechanics” (Mechanika Piekna). She also presented the collection at the OFF Fashion, at the Warsaw Fashion Street and at Łódź Design. Together with Kajka Woźnicka, she launched an informal artistic group called HIHOT, whose projects include urban happenings. She also runs a design studio, INNI, that specializes in one-of-a-kind fashion and costume designs. (www.innimoda.pl)

Miodrag Guberinic (Costume Designer - Panier/Corset Sculpture) graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago with MFA in Costume Design. Most recent theater design works include: 10% Nation (Dixon Place NYC); King and I, Amahl And The Night Visitors, Lombardi and Steel Magnolias (Harbor Lights Theater, NYC); How Deep Is The Ocean (NYMF, NYC); Muzungu (Co-Op Theatre East NYC); Ghost Girl (The Workshop Theatre, NYC); Special (Theatre Row Studios, NYC); Where We Were Born and Animals Out of Paper (Steppenwolf Theatre Chicago). He received Norrenbroock Design Award from Northwestern University 2011 and The Merritt award for the best Graduating exhibition from The Goodman theater in Chicago 2011.

The All for One Theater Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to the art and appreciation of transformational solo performance, and the Annual Festival is the cornerstone of the All For One’s yearly programming.
