James Rodriguez: The Next Robben/Ribery?

Michael Skok     21 lipca, 2017

The signing of James Rodriguez for Bayern Munich from Real Madrid could represent another one of the Bavarian club’s monumental transfers in the last decade. The Colombian was left out of Zinedine Zidane’s plans at Madrid, having no room against the ever improving Isco and Marco Asensio. The 2014 World Cup star thus decided to ply his trade in Germany with Carlo Ancelotti from Bayern Munich.

For Bayern Munich, this is an opportunity to receive a player on the level of Robben and Ribery. James left the club with quite incredible stats, with 87 goals and 102 assists in 304 games throughout his entire career. This is despite having not played a normal amount of games for Madrid in the latter half of his career in La Liga. Additionally, much of his greatest stats came under Carlo Ancelotti when he managed Real Madrid earlier in his career.

This transfer allows Bayern Munich some adaptability. James is well known to play as a dynamic #10 in his past. However, he has also played as a wide midfielder, with the ability to play on the left as well as the right. What’s more James has only just turned 26, making him approach his prime in football years. This allows Bayern to play him as a dynamic playmaker who can also score plenty of goals.
