Wife arrested in stabbing of Miami receiver

24 kwietnia, 2011

Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall was hospitalized in intensive care Saturday after being stabbed with a kitchen knife by his wife, who was released on bail following her arrest, police said.

Police charged Michi Nogami-Marshall with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon late Friday. An arrest report said Nogami-Marshall told police she had been defending herself.

Nogami-Marshall, 26, posted $7,500 bail and was released from custody on Saturday afternoon.

A police report said Marshall told officers he slipped and fell on a broken vase but authorities noted the evidence did not support his story.

Marshall was taken by care to Broward General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery Friday night. Doctors have told Marshall that he will likely be fine in two to three weeks and that no vital organs were injured.

"This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family. Thankfully he will make a full recovery," said Kennard McGuire and Harvey Steinberg, Marshall\'s agents, in a statement. "We simply ask that his privacy is respected."

Marshall and Nogami were married last July. They met while students at Central Florida University.

Marshall was obtained by the Dolphins from Denver last April, signing a four-year deal with Miami worth $47.5 million, $24 million of it guaranteed, and led the Dolphins last year with 1,014 receiving yards.

Marshall, 27, said before last season he would look into playing in the NBA if a current labor dispute kept the NFL from playing games in 2011, even though the NBA\'s collective-bargaining deal expires on June 30.

NFL owners locked out players last month in a dispute now being played out in the courts.

Lockout regulations limit team contact with players but the Dolphins were allowed to have their team doctor visit Marshall and speak with his other physicians.
