The 2nd Annual SSG Michael Ollis 5K Run & 2-Mile Walk on Staten Island, NY
09 czerwca, 2018
During an attack on a base in Ghazni, (August 28, 2013), Staff Sergeant (SSG) Michael H. Ollis shielded a Polish officer, Second Lieutenant Karol Cierpica, thereby saving his life.
Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis, of Staten Island, NY, died Aug. 28, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, NY. SSG Ollis has been posthumously decorated with the Silver Star, the third highest American combat award.
In 2017, the inaugural event had over 700 participants and we hope to grow on that success in this year's event. Thanks to your help, the Ollis has grown into one of Staten Island's largest and premier running events.
The Ollis is organized by the SSG Michael Ollis Freedom Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, and is scored by Richard Re of ScoreYourRace.com. After payment of race expenses, all proceeds are used by the Ollis Freedom Foundation to provide assistance and support to combat veterans re-entering civilian life.
