PA: Minister Waszczykowski Meets with Polish Americans

19 września, 2017

“The Polish community and Poles abroad are ambassadors of Poland, partners of the Polish government in its efforts to shape a positive image of our country and defend its good name,” said Minister Witold Waszczykowski during a meeting with the Polish community in the US held on the second day of his visit to the United States.

The foreign minister visited Doylestown, PA, where he met with representatives of the local Polish community, including leaders of Polish organizations abroad devoted to historical education and promotion of Polish historical policy on the US East Coast.

“Your commitment to the Polish case allows us to implement our political and promotional objectives more effectively, to advance economic, environmental and scientific contacts, especially in the US, where Polish-American cultural and educational organizations are strong,” stressed the minister.

“You have proven by your actions that Poland can count on your help and cooperation. Poland’s government considers you a partner, advisor and expert, and it treats the matters of the Polish community as a priority,” he added.

The minister thanked those present for tirelessly cultivating the Polish character and promoting Poland, and for defending Poland’s good name and historical truth, especially by countering false expressions such as “Polish concentration camps”. The Polish community in the US has huge merits in this respect.

The MFA head also encouraged Poles living in the US to return to Poland. At the same time, he emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ efforts to maintain relations with the Polish community, evidenced among others by numerous meetings with compatriots living abroad during MFA senior officials’ foreign visits.

The chief of Polish diplomacy also underlined that both the dynamic development of the Polish economy in the recent time and the successful visit of President Donald Trump to Warsaw could herald effective cooperation between Poland and the United States, with new prospects for Poles living in the US.

Doylestown, known as “the American Częstochowa”, hosts the National Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa, a monastery and a national cemetery with numerous statues of persons of merit. During his visit to the place, the chief of Polish diplomacy thanked Fr. Krzysztof Drybka, the Prior of Pauline Monastery, and all Pauline Fathers for taking care of this complex, both religious and cultural, which is so important to the Poles living in the US. He also thanked the Pauline Fathers and Gazeta Polska Clubs affiliated with the Shrine for their friendly reception and participation in the Mass at St. Anne’s chapel.
