Young Community Leaders will Participate in the 6th International Conference in Warsaw

09 czerwca, 2017

Breaking Walls, an international creative writing, performance and peace building initiative, will take place in Warsaw from July 6 thru July 17, 2017. Read more for details.

Breaking Walls, an international creative writing, performance and peacebuilding initiative is pleased and proud to invite young men and women in Warsaw to join us for our sixth international conference. Breaking Walls fosters global dialogue between the leaders of tomorrow by creating artistic, educational and community-building opportunities for youth to become those empathetic, system-changing leaders. We empower youth to discover their voice, and offer them a platform on which to use it.

Breaking Walls 2017 will happen in Warsaw from July 6 thru July 17, 2017. The initiative will consist of community building, creative writing, creation of a Theatre Piece, and a culminating performance for a live audience; plus, the opportunity to share face-to-face dialogue and life experiences as an ensemble group. Breaking Walls  2017 will bring together artists and ambassadors from six communities: Barcelona, Berlin, Bethlehem, Brooklyn, Cape Town, Detroit, and Warsaw. The 27 artists and 9 ambassadors will come together to write around issues of self-awareness, freedom of expression, and how to shape an accepting, peaceful world.

The role of the Warsaw youth in building an international creative community will be that of a Breaking Walls artist- a young man or woman (between 14 and 18 years old) who collaborates through creative writing, sharing that writing openly with your fellow artists, and performing a devised theater piece crafted from this writing; and:

  • Who are comfortable reading, writing and speaking in English
  • Who will benefit from the experience;
  • Who like to write;
  • Will memorize their lines in a timely manner;
  • Who will not be fearful of presenting in front of an audience;
  • Who will be comfortable staying in a youth hostel or hotel with our Breaking Walls international community for the twelve-day initiative.

Our creative community will stay at the Cloud Hostel in Warsaw. We will be working at the famed Strefa Wolnoslowa Theater for our daily workshops and our culminating Theater performance on July 16.  After each day’s workshop, we will explore Warsaw through our cultural excursions to the Palace of Culture and Science, taking a class at Polish Your Cooking, and a bus tour of the city. It is our hope that the Warsaw artists who join us will select four cultural excursions that they feel will be informative and fun for the entire community. Breaking Walls will cover all expenses with the exception of personal pocket-money.

Breaking Walls looks forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to our global family on July 6!
