Children's Day at the Polish Embassy in Washington D.C. with Students from J.C. Nalle Elementary School

03 czerwca, 2016

Students Participating in the Embassy Adoption Program Celebrate Children's Day at the Polish Embassy.

During the 2015-2016 school year, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington took part in an educational program for students of elementary and middle schools in the District of Columbia. On June 1st, fifth grade students from J.C. Nalle Elementary School visited the Embassy.
"We are proud of your knowledge about our home country," highlighted Maciej Pisarski as he kicked off the meeting which concluded a several month long collaboration between the Embassy and J.C. Nalle. The elementary school students began their "imaginary trip" to Poland during their November 2015 visit, using beautiful maps created by Polish authors Aleksandra and Daniel Mizieliński. On subsequent visits, the children learned about the history and geography of Poland as well as Polish holiday traditions. In March 2016, they cheered on Marcin Gortat and the Washington Wizards at the NBA's Polish Heritage Night in Washington. We also organized environmental science classes and theater workshops featuring Polish-American characters. The theme of "great Poles" was revisited in a presentation which the students prepared for their June 1st visit.
We received a very unique American gift - a handmade white and red patchwork quilt with Polish patterns. The students also received gifts and then enjoyed a Polish lunch.
The Embassy Adoption Program is a collaboration between the Embassy, District of Columbia Public Schools, and Washington Performing Arts.
