The KF 's founder, Dr. Stephen P. Mizwa was instrumental in initiation of Summer Sessions with the Polish Committee of Intellectual Cooperation and the International Student Service in 1929. It was an ambitious and fascinating program to conduct summer exchange courses in Poland for the purpose of further propagating knowledge of Poland in the United States. Because of the war Summer Sessions were suspended in 1939 and successfully relaunched by Prof. Eugene Kusielewicz in 1970 in cooperation with Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Since that time participation has grown enormously and our sessions have expanded beyond the Polish language classes. Now programs include Polish history, art, culture, literature and theatre with evening social or cultural events like dancing, cooking, film showings, visits to galleries and museums and series of classes known as sacrum/profanum which include making pierogi for the Christmas Eve feast, wax fortune telling, singing, dancing, and a bonfire sausage roast. Learn more about 2016 Summer Study Abroad Program>
