BEC ZMIANA FOUNDATION at the New York Art Book Fair.Public opening: Thu, Sept 19, 6-9 pm

The guerrilla art agitators, the Bec Zmiana Foundation (pronounced BENTS ZMYAH-nah, meaning Bang! Change!), are coming to the eighth annual New York Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1, organized by Printed Matter, Inc.

The Bec Zmiana Foundation is one of the leading non-profit cultural organizations in Poland, established to promote and advance emerging culture in the creative fields of contemporary art, architecture, design, cultural activism and more. The foundation encourages research and provocation, supports experimental and progressive art projects, and publishes books and journals about the arts, design, as well as social, economic, and cultural theory. The foundation tries to bring audiences from all social groups closer to art and artists by bringing art into the public realm.

Bec Zmiana is also a publisher for a wide range of popular and academic and theoretical books and journals on the subject of contemporary culture. One of the most recognized Bec Zmiana magazines is Notes.na.6.tygodni (est. 2003). The publication is devoted to current events in Poland and the world, and the cutting edge of culture and theory, featuring interviews with remarkable artists and curators such as Susan Philipsz, Slavs and Tatars, Elias Redstone and Bas van Beek. Notes.for.6.weeks counts some of Polands most recognized and accomplished curators and creators among its contributors, including Grzegorz Piatek, Sebastian Cichocki, and Michal Libera, and is designed by Grzegorz Laszuk, winner of the European Design Award for Notes in 2008 and 2010. Bec Zmiana also publishes the experimental humanities periodical, Format P, which regularly changes its profile, editorial team, range of distribution, and focus.

At the New York Art Book Fair the Bec Zmiana Foundation will present an array of books and journals published by the foundation alongside a selection of the newest publications from the Polish National Center for Culture, Wyspa Institute of Art, Wyspa Progress Foundation, Center for Architecture, TR Warszawa, and Korporacja Ha!art. A selection of records from the Warsaw labels Bolt Records and Lado ABC will be available for preview at the fair.

Free and open to the public, the NY Art Book Fair Fair is the world\'s premiere event for artists books, catalogs, monographs, periodicals, and zines presenting over 280 booksellers, antiquarians, artists, and independent publishers in 2013.

Printed Matter, Inc. is the world\'s largest non-profit organization founded in 1976 by artists and art workers dedicated to fostering the appreciation, dissemination, and understanding of artists books and other artists publications in the landscape of contemporary art.
