Talks with MFA Undersecretary Beata Stelmach about US experience in shale gas exploration and the construction of installations to export liquid natural gas (LNG)

12 marca, 2013

On 5-8 March, MFA Undersecretary Beata Stelmach visited the United States to learn about the US experience and regulations concerning shale gas exploration and the construction of installations to export liquid natural gas (LNG).

Poland’s deputy foreign minister took part in CERA WEEK, an energy conference, where she presented the importance of shale gas for Poland’s and Europe’s energy security. Undersecretary Stelmach also talked about the economic and social consequences of shale gas  production, comparing them to the economic consequences of Poland’s accession to the European Union.

Deputy Minister Stelmach also met with Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel B. Poneman and Daniel Yergin, an energy expert and Chairman of IHS CERA (Information Handling Services Cambridge Energy Research Associates) to discuss Polish-US cooperation in prospecting and exploration of shale gas and international energy policy. Possibilities of exporting US LNG gas to Europe and elsewhere, were also discussed.

The Polish delegation visited shale gas technology development centres run by the largest US service companies, LNG terminals and R&D laboratories. It also toured a shale gas drilling site near Dallas-Fort Worth. The Polish delegation also held meetings with representatives of the US Energy Information Administration, the Railroad Commission of Texas (Texas regulator), IHS CERA and US shale gas and LNG companies.
