Urban Development Conference 2013 in New York

\"Urban Development Conference: U.S. and Poland\'s Cities in the Global Economy,\" which took place on February 28th at the premises of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, was dedicated to the analysis of urban development and urban issues.

The event was coorganized by the Ministry of Regional Development, represented by the Undersecretary of State Marceli Niezgoda. Other guests invited to participate in the conference included the delegation from Bialystok, led by President Tadeusz Truskolaski, and the delegation from Zabrze, led by President Małgorzata Mańka-Szulik. The American side was represented by, among others, Ed Pawlowski, the Mayor of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Adam Andrzejewski - a former candidate for governor of Illinois. 

Many distinguished personalities from the world of academia and business also took part in the debate. For instance, lecture on cities as the leading centers of creativity and innovation was delivered by Professor Edward Glaeser of Harvard University. Professor Ingrid Ellen of NYU Wagner gave a speech on internal migration patterns and what prompts people to relocate. Marcin Jakubaszek and Richard Walawender - lawyers from the Miller Canfield firm - talked about the various ways of financing urban development projects, and what the U.S. and Polish cities can learn from each other. 

The representatives of Polish organizations were also present at the conference. Tadeusz Radziwilowski of PIASA discussed voting behavior patterns of the Polonia electorate in the local, state, and presidential elections, whereas Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz of the Polish American Congress, described the participation of Americans of Polish descent in American politics in the State of New Jersey. 

The conference was concluded by a reception.
