Chrysler\'s US sales jump 40% in February

01 marca, 2012

Chrysler\'s US auto sales jumped 40 percent in February from a year ago, racking up nearly two years of growth and the ninth straight month of gains above 20 percent, the automaker said Thursday.

Chrysler said it has also outpaced the overall industry sales rate for the 12th month in a row, thanks in part to its broad portfolio of fuel-efficient vehicles.

"A few years ago higher fuel prices were a major threat to our total vehicle sales whereas today those higher prices have become far less of an issue," Reid Bigland, who heads Chrysler\'s US sales, said in a statement.

"We now have 13 vehicles with an EPA-rated highway fuel economy of 25 miles per gallon or higher, and six of those vehicles get 31 mpg or higher."

In February, the sales surge was led by a 126 percent jump in cars sales to 133,521 vehicles, while truck sales rose 20 percent.
