As Cologne Investigation drags on, Sales of Sprays and Fake Guns Rise

By Michael Skok     15 stycznia, 2016

The aftermath of the Cologne Sex Attacks has been quite a dramatic one. Much of the German media had failed to mention or report this story immediately after the events took place, despite police reports of the sexual harassment being widespread. Ever since then, the number of criminal complaints has grown to nearly 700, with almost half of these being related to sexual offenses. The identity of most of these offenders, as reported by the Cologne Police, were from North Africa.

As a result of these attacks, there has been a record amount of sales in gas spray, stuns guns, and pepper spray. This of course, is very much in response in both the attacks as well as the lack of response from Cologne police to deal with the attacks. As of now, only five suspects have been detained and are in investigative custody.

These events bring into question the state of local police in Germany, and if they are able to handle such a mass influx of migrants/refugees – many of whom who may not be fully aware of the laws or customs that form the foundation in western countries such as Germany. This also brings into question the ability for the German government to screen these refugees/migrants (which as of now, over a million had arrived in Europe). Many of the offenders are originally thought to be from North Africa, a region not directly threatened by groups such as the Islamic State.
