Students, Cultural Activists and Campaigners from Lviv Say Thank You to Poles For Their Solidarity

05 lutego, 2014

“We say thank you to the Poles for their solidarity” was the motto of a rally that local students, cultural activists and campaigners from the EUROMAIDAN movement staged in front of the Polish Consulate General in Lviv on Monday. This way Lviv residents wanted to show their appreciation for Polish support of the Ukrainian people’s European aspirations.

The unusual event brought together several dozen people, who were holding banners reading “We appreciate your support,” “We are together,” and “We say thank you to the Poles for their solidarity.” Held on 3 February, the rally was attended by students and lecturers from Lviv universities, cultural activists, and members of the “EUROMAIDAN” movement from Lviv.

The assembly was triggered by the Polish media which had put forward the idea of expressing solidarity with Ukraine through music. The song “Extend your hand to Ukraine,” authored by the Polish, Ukrainian and Belarusian band “TARAKA,” had its premiere at the Maidan in Kyiv on 1 February at 5:15 p.m. The piece was simultaneously broadcast on many Polish radio and TV stations. The song also accompanied participants of the rally in front of the Polish Consulate in Lviv.

A Consulate official who met the campaigners received a thank you for the Polish people, and was handed posters made by the activists.
