Minister Sikorski meets with Deputy Secretary-General of NATO

02 marca, 2013

On March 1 in Warsaw, Minister Radosław Sikorski and Deputy Secretary-General of NATO Alexander Vershbow discussed changes in NATO after ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) completes its mission in Afghanistan in 2014.

Both speakers emphasized the importance of enhancing NATO’s allied defence capabilities in hard economic times, in particular through projects such as the Connected Forces Initiative (CFI) and Smart Defence. “Maintaining capabilities so that we can effectively respond to challenges during times of protracted economic crisis has become a key concern,” Minister Sikorski said after the meeting.

Minister Sikorski and Deputy Secretary-General Vershbow discussed the results of the meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence (Brussels 21-22 February), developments in Syria, North Africa and threats involving the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (North Korea, Iran).

While in Warsaw Alexander Vershbow also held consultations on security policy issues with MFA Undersecretary of State Bogusław Winid.
