The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

Delight in a whirl of color and culture the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble performs at Lehman Center for the performing arts Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 3pm

Bronx, NY – Lehman Center for the Performing Arts presents the very best international companies, and the HUNGARIAN STATE FOLK ENSEMBLE brings the flash, precision and joy of Hungarian Folk Dance to amaze dance lovers and fun-seeking audiences alike. With choreographic patterns executed with sharp precision, bright costumes and music by prominent Hungarian composers such as Liszt, Bartók and Kodály, the company presents dances from all the regions of Hungary including isolated villages with dance elements that go back 100 years. The concert takes place Sunday, March 11 at 3pm at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall, 250 Bedford Park Blvd. W. on the campus of Lehman College in the Bronx. Tickets cost $35, $30, $25 & $20 and can be purchased through 24 hour online access at www.LehmanCenter.org or by calling the Lehman Center box office at 718-960-8833 (Mon.
through Fri., 10am-5pm and beginning at 12 noon on the day of the concert). Lehman Center is accessible by #4 or D train to Bedford Park Blvd., and is right off several major highways, including the Henry Hudson Parkway, the Saw Mill River Parkway and Major Deegan Expressway. Over 1000 free on-site attended parking spaces are available.

The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, regarded as one of the greatest folkloric dance ensembles in the world, was established in 1951. The company of 75 dancers and musicians presents authentic folk music and dance with traditional costumes of Hungary and Hungarian-inhabited areas. Their rich and colorful repertoire entitles the Ensemble to be regarded as one of the top touring groups in the world with performances in over 44 countries.

The extraordinary folk music is performed by the troupe’s Folk Orchestra and the world-famous Gypsy Orchestra. The members of the Folk Orchestra play authentic, traditional instruments and perform Hungarian folk music at the highest artistic level. The famous Gypsy Orchestra plays both dance accompaniments and performs on its own.

For the concert at Lehman Center, the company will present a full program set to the music of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, considered one of the great composers of the 20th century.

Lehman Center, the premier concert hall of the Bronx for international dance, continues it stellar season with The Moscow Festival Ballet’s SWAN LAKE (Sat., March 31 at 7pm) and Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company (Saturday, April 21 at 8pm).
