Organ Recital by David Crean

On Saturday, March 10, the young and talented American organist David Crean performed at St. Josaphat’s Church at Bayside, Queens. He played music by J.S. Bach, J. Brahms, C.P.E. Bach, A. Gabrieli, B. Strayhorn, L. Boellmann, and C. Widor and received generous applause from the audience. Mr. Crean, currently a doctoral candidate at the Juilliard School of Music and a native New Yorker, holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and the University of Iowa and has served on the faculty of The Juilliard School. Mr. Crean has concertized throughout the United States and in June 2012 will make his international debut with a tour of Australia, featuring performances in Sydney and Bowrel. Mr. Crean is also a prolific writer and in demand as a program annotator; his articles have appeared in The American Organist.

For this concert, Elsener Organ Works from Deer Park, New York, prepared and tuned the organ.

The Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, Vermont, built the pipe organ at St. Josaphat’s Church in 1938. The organ, consisting of 488 pipes, was restored in 2005 with funds provided through the estate of Stanley and Marion Jobo. The remainder of the fund, known as St. Josaphat Jobo Music Fund, serves now as the seed money for the Performing Artists Concert Series at St. Josaphat’s Church and enables the churh to offer concerts to the public free of charge.

This concert was the last from the first series of four performances. The next series of concerts will start in June 2012.
