Manchester City are a favorite in the Champions League

19 października, 2017

There was always a consensus that Manchester City would be favorites for the 2018/2018 Premier League season. Indeed, they have already beaten the likes of Liverpool at home and Chelsea away in very impressive wins. On top of that, Pep Guardiola’s side have thrashed the likes of Watford and Stoke City recently, scoring a total of 13 goals against them. However, one of the big question marks regarding the City side would be regarding how their form would hold up in Europe.

As of the third matchday, the English side is flying high with maximum points and three impressive wins. Their most recent challenge came in the form of Napoli, who are at the top of the Serie A, boasting impressive offensive and defensive capabilities. Nevertheless, Pep Guardiola and his team were able to roundly beat the Naples side with a 2-1 win at the Etihad. Another inspiring performance from Kevin De Bruyne meant the home side dominated the possession and overall the proceedings at home.

Manchester City are a more complete side this season, with plenty of quality able to come off the bench to cause havoc on their opposition. A big improvement has been the signing of Ederson, the Brazilian goalkeeper from Benfica that is extremely confident within his own box and has the capability to start counter attacks and fully indulge himself in the possession style of Guardiola’s. Gabriel Jesus has grown to become one of the most promising strikers in the world, comfortably having the ability to be ahead of Sergio Aguero in the pecking order. Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling are both scoring and assisting at will as well. What's more, the likes of Gundogen, Bernardo Silva, and Sergio Aguero are all incredible players in their own right (who can still find themselves on the bench), each can change the fortunes of a match.

Ultimately, it will take an imperious side to beat Manchester City. The sheer quality of depth from back to front means teams will have to be incredibly adaptive to deal with Guardiola’s flexibility.
