Bayern Munich Fall to Dortmund in Der Klassiker

20 listopada, 2016

The Bundesliga resumed after the most recent international break, and it reopened with one of the most anticipated domestic matchups in Europe. Injuries deeply influenced both sides, as Bayern were missing the likes of Robben and Vidal while Dortmund neither had Rode nor Reus available to them. Bayern went with their standard 4-3-3 formation, with Kimmich and Thiago deputizing in for Vidal in the midfield. Meanwhile, Lewandowski was joined with Ribery and Muller in the offensive third. For the home side, they went for a three-in-the-back formation. Aubamayeng was joined up top with Ramos while Gotze and Schurrle started in midfield.

Once again, Dortmund started as they traditionally do. High pressure and fast football dominated the proceedings. So much so where the former Bayern player, Mario Gotze, assisted the first and only goal of the game, where he sent in a low cross for Aubamayeng, who guided it past Manuel Neuer. For the remainder of the half, Dortmund and Bayern traded blows in the midfield until the whistle.

However, as time progressed in the second half, Bayern started to dominate the possession as well as the chances created. Dortmund tired from their earlier exploits, they ceded more and more ground to the Bavarians. Bayern hit the under par of the post with a strong effort from Xabi Alonso, while Robert Lewandowski was close to converting several times. Bayern wasn’t able to score in the end.

Bayern are now three points behind RB Leipzig, who has only just been promoted this season.
