Bayern Munich Miss Opportunity to Widen Table Lead

16 października, 2016

The reigning Bundesliga champions failed to capitalize on Dortmund’s draw with Hertha Berlin on match day seven. The match ended 2-2 against a stable and very competitive Eintracht Frankfurt. This is following the recent international break, where Poland’s Robert Lewandowski and the German national team did very well.

Bayern went into the lead early on, with Arjen Robben dribbling into the box and launching a low finished effort past Lukas Hradecky after ten minutes were played. Bayern held the lead well for most of the first half, but weren’t able to keep it into half time. Szabolcs Huszti levelled the score just before half time, but then Bayern came out strong again in the second half.

This led to Joshua Kimmich scoring once again for the Bavarians after 62 minutes. The victory looked all to be assured after Huszti was sent off through two yellow cards, leaving Frankfurt with 10 players for 25 minutes to spare. However, Bayern capitulated a second time when Marco Fabian converted U.S international Timothy Chandler’s cross.

These results follow Bayern’s defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and drawing with FC Koln, who are currently second in the league.
