UNESCO Session in Krakow

The proceedings will last until 12 July. Participants will make over 200 decisions relating to the world's cultural and natural heritage. 

In addition to representatives of the 21 countries that are currently members of the Committee, also taking part in the meetings will be delegates from over 110 other countries that have signed the Convention for the Protection of the World's Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted in 1972. 280 journalists have been registered for the event. 

A ceremonial opening of the session was held on July 2 at the Wawel. It was attended by the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński. 

Among the topics to be discussed by the participants of the session will be the 33 applications to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list (nature sites as well as mixed, cultural sites). 

The applications submitted by Poland consist of an historic lead, silver and zinc mine as well as an underground water management system in Tarnowskie Góry.

The organizer of the 41st session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on behalf of the Polish government is the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, which is preparing the event in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Krakow authorities. The event is being coordinated by the National Heritage Institute.
